About
One job: the 38-hour year
People in Australia are often quoted an hourly rate, then paid a fortnight, then asked to compare that with a salary. This site does that conversion and shows the tax and super around it.
What the timesheet assumes
- Ordinary hours stop at 38. Extra hours are shown separately and, here, earn the same rate with no penalty.
- The year is 52 weeks. A fortnight is two of those weeks.
- Casual loading, when you tick it, is 25% on the rate you typed.
- Super is 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and capped at the maximum contribution base.
- Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold.
- The Medicare estimate uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds.
What it leaves out
Awards, penalty rates, allowances, overtime rules, salary sacrifice, HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and junior or apprentice scales other than the award-free National Minimum Wage. If an award covers the job, the award rate wins.
Where the reference figures come from
The Fair Work Commission and the Fair Work Ombudsman for the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026. The Australian Bureau of Statistics Average Weekly Earnings release for May 2026. The Australian Taxation Office for resident rates in 2026–27 and the super guarantee. Guides name those organisations when they rely on them.
