Understanding the APS4 Salary: Hourly Rates, Fortnightly Pay, and Super for APS4 Pay Points
An APS4 salary from $84,028 to $91,199 per annum (from 12 March 2026, per ATO attachment A) converts to an hourly rate between $42.52 and $46.15 for a 38-hour week, with 12% super on top.
Converting an APS4 Salary to an Hourly Rate
When you see a job advertisement quoting an APS4 salary, it is an annual figure before tax and before super. To work out the hourly rate for a 38-hour week, use the formula: **hourly rate = annual salary ÷ 52 weeks ÷ 38 hours. The timesheet assumes 38 hours per week unless your award or agreement says otherwise.
For example, the ATO Enterprise Agreement 2024 (Attachment A) shows APS4 pay points from $84,028 to $91,191 from 12 March 2026. The lowest APS4 step ($84,028) gives $42.52 per hour. The highest step ($91,199 gives $46.15 per hour. The fortnightly pay is weekly pay × 2, so $42.42 per hour × 38 hours × 2 = $3,231.60 per fortnight.
National Minimum Wage and Award Rates
The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.42 per hour for a 38-hour week, $1,004.9 per week for full-time. Casual employees get 25% loading on top, at $33.05 per hour including loading. The Fair Work Ombudsman pay guides list minimum rates for each award and average pay topics. The ABS Average Weekly Earnings, May 2026: full-time adult ordinary time $2,083.7 per week. All employees total earnings $1,579.2 per week (includes part-time).
Fortnightly Pay
Fortnightly pay is weekly pay × 2. For an APS4 salary of $84,028 per annum, weekly pay is $1,615.80, fortnightly $3,231.60. The timesheet shows both weekly and fortnightly figures.
Summary
Always check your specific award or agreement for exact rates. The timesheet is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax. Use the pay guides for your award.
Open the same rate on the home timesheet. Read the reference tables before treating a figure as your pay.
