Average Real Estate Agent Salary: Hourly, Weekly, Fortnightly & Annual Breakdown
Based on the industry average of $1,979.60 per week for a 38-hour week, the average real estate agent salary is approximately $102,939 per year before tax and super.
Understanding the Average Real Estate Agent Salary
When you search for the average real estate agent salary in Australia, the most reliable figure comes from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Average Weekly Earnings survey. For the rental, hiring and real estate industry, full-time adult ordinary time earnings in May 2026 were $1,979.60 per week. This is an industry average, not a job median. It covers all full-time employees in that sector, including experienced agents and those just starting out.
To make this figure useful for your own situation, you need to convert it into hourly, fortnightly and annual amounts. The standard full-time week in Australia is 38 hours, so we use that as the base. The formula is simple: hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks = annual salary.
How to Convert Hourly to Annual Pay
If you know your hourly rate, you can estimate your annual pay. For the industry average, the hourly rate is $1,979.60 ÷ 38 = $52.09 per hour. Multiply that by 38 hours and 52 weeks:
$52.09 × 38 × 52 = $102,939.20 per year (before tax and super).
This is the gross annual figure. Remember, this assumes you work the same hours every week with no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, and no allowances. If you are a casual employee, you would typically receive a 25% loading on top of your base rate. The timesheet on our home page lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add casual loading – never enter a rate that already includes casual loading.
Fortnightly and Weekly Breakdown
Many people are paid fortnightly. For the average real estate agent salary:
- Weekly: $1,979.60
- Fortnightly: $3,959.20 (weekly × 2)
- Annual: $102,939.20
These figures are before tax and super. Your actual pay may differ if you work part-time or overtime.
Minimum Wage, Awards and Casual Loading
It is important to distinguish the industry average from the legal minimums. The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour ($1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). Casual employees get 25% loading, making it $33.05 per hour. However, many real estate agents are covered by the Real Estate Industry Award, which sets higher minimum rates for classifications such as sales representative or property manager. Always check your award or agreement.
If you are casual, your hourly rate should be your base rate plus 25% casual loading. The casual loading page explains how this works. Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings, including casual loading.
Superannuation and Tax
Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. For the average weekly earnings of $1,979.60, that is about $237.55 per week in super. The super guarantee stops once your earnings reach the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year.
Tax is calculated using the 2026–27 resident tax rates:
- Nil on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Plus the Medicare levy of 2% (based on 2025–26 single reduction thresholds as 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed). For the average salary of $102,939, tax is approximately $21,400 and Medicare $2,059, leaving take-home pay of about $79,480 per year.
Using the Timesheet for Your Own Numbers
Our timesheet is the home page. You type your base hourly rate, and if you are casual, check the casual loading box. The tool then calculates your annual, fortnightly and weekly pay, along with estimated tax and super. It uses the same assumptions described here: 38-hour week, 52-week year, no overtime or allowances.
For more detailed pay comparisons, see our average pay page, which explains industry averages from the ABS. You can also explore hourly conversion for other occupations.
Important Disclaimer
Annual pay shown here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
Whether you are negotiating a salary offer or checking your current rate, understanding the average real estate agent salary gives you a benchmark. Remember, the ABS figure is an industry average, not a job median – your actual pay may vary based on experience, location, and employer.
