Business Analyst Salary Sydney: How to Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay

For a 38-hour week, annual gross pay is hourly rate × 38 × 52, with super paid on top at 12%.

Understanding the Business Analyst Salary in Sydney

If you are researching a business analyst salary Sydney, you have likely seen hourly rates quoted on job ads or recruiter websites. Converting that hourly figure into an annual salary helps you compare offers and plan your budget. This guide explains the standard conversion using a 38-hour week, a 52-week year, and how tax and super fit in.

The Formula: Hourly to Annual

The basic calculation is straightforward:

Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52

We assume a full-time week of 38 ordinary hours, as defined by the Fair Work Commission. For a business analyst earning $60 per hour, that works out to:

$60 × 38 × 52 = $118,560 per year before tax and super.

If you are paid fortnightly, multiply your weekly pay by 2. For the same $60/hour rate, weekly pay is $2,280, so a fortnight is $4,560. This is useful when comparing with salary packages that quote fortnightly amounts.

National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates

From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. This is the legal floor for award/agreement-free employees. Most business analyst roles, however, are covered by professional awards or enterprise agreements that pay significantly more. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award, which list minimum rates, allowances, and penalty rates.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reports average weekly earnings for full-time adult employees at $2,083.70 per week (May 2026). That equates to roughly $54.83 per hour for a 38-hour week. While not specific to business analysts, this figure gives a benchmark for professional roles in Sydney.

Casual Loading

If you work as a casual business analyst, you are entitled to a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave. For the national minimum wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour. When using our timesheet, you can check a box to add the 25% loading automatically. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading; always start with the base rate.

Superannuation

Super is paid on top of your salary. The super guarantee rate for 2026–27 is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. For a business analyst earning $120,000, the employer contributes an extra $14,400 into super. This is not deducted from your pay; it is an additional benefit. See our super and packaging page for more details.

Tax Considerations

Your annual gross pay is subject to income tax and the Medicare levy. For 2026–27, the resident tax rates are:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income between $18,201 and $45,000
  • 30% on income between $45,001 and $135,000
  • 37% on income between $135,001 and $190,000
  • 45% on income above $190,000

Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (with reductions for low-income earners). These are deducted from your pay by your employer through PAYG withholding. Use our take-home pay tool to estimate your net income.

Example for a Business Analyst in Sydney

Suppose you are offered a casual business analyst role in Sydney at $70 per hour. Your annual gross would be:

$70 × 38 × 52 = $138,320

With casual loading (25% on top), the rate becomes $87.50 per hour, giving an annual gross of $172,900. However, remember that casual loading is meant to replace paid leave, so your actual take-home may vary depending on hours worked.

If you are permanent full-time, your employer also pays 12% super on top of your salary. So the total employment cost is higher than your gross salary.

Using the Timesheet Tool

Our timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and see the annual equivalent instantly. You can toggle casual loading, view weekly and fortnightly amounts, and see estimated tax and super. It is designed for Australian workers and uses the latest Fair Work and ATO data.

Important Notes

This calculation assumes you work the same number of hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Always check your specific award or agreement for exact conditions. The Fair Work Ombudsman’s pay guides are the authoritative source for minimum rates.

Questions people ask next

What is the formula to convert an hourly rate to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours worked per week, then by 52 weeks. For a standard full-time role, this is hourly rate × 38 × 52. For example, $50/hour × 38 × 52 = $98,800 per year before tax and super.

How does casual loading affect my pay as a business analyst in Sydney?

Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate to compensate for not receiving paid leave. For the national minimum wage, this takes the rate from $26.44 to $33.05 per hour. Always check if your rate already includes loading or if it is the base rate.

What is the superannuation guarantee rate for 2026–27 and how is it calculated?

The super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, paid on top of your salary. It applies up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. For a business analyst earning $100,000, the employer would contribute an extra $12,000 into super.
