Concreter Salary: Hourly to Annual Pay Calculator for a 38-Hour Week

For a concreter on the national minimum wage, $26.44 per hour equals $1004.90 per week for 38 hours, or $52,254.80 annually before tax and super.

Understanding Your Concreter Salary

If you work as a concreter in Australia, knowing how your hourly rate translates into weekly, fortnightly, and annual pay is essential for budgeting and comparing job offers. This guide explains the standard calculations using a 38-hour week, the national minimum wage, award rates, casual loading, and the impact of tax and superannuation.

The 38-Hour Week and Annual Pay

Full-time employment in Australia is typically based on 38 ordinary hours per week. To convert an hourly rate to annual gross pay, use the formula:

Hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks

For example, if your concreter salary is $30 per hour:

  • Weekly: $30 × 38 = $1,140
  • Fortnightly: $1,140 × 2 = $2,280
  • Annual: $1,140 × 52 = $59,280

This assumes you work the same hours every week with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances. For part-time or casual work, adjust the weekly hours accordingly.

National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates

From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. This is the legal minimum for award/agreement-free employees. However, most concreters are covered by the Building and Construction General On-site Award 2020, which sets higher minimum rates for different classifications (e.g., concreter level 1, level 2, etc.). Always check your award using the pay guides from the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Casual Loading

If you are a casual concreter, you are entitled to a 25% loading on top of the minimum hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave. For the national minimum wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour ($26.44 + 25%). When using our calculator, tick the casual loading checkbox and enter your base hourly rate (before loading). Do not enter a rate that already includes casual loading.

Fortnightly Pay

Many employers pay fortnightly. Simply multiply your weekly pay by two. Using the example above: $1,140 per week × 2 = $2,280 per fortnight before tax. This is useful for aligning with your mortgage or rent payments.

Tax and Medicare Levy

Your gross annual pay is subject to income tax and the Medicare levy. For the 2026–27 financial year, the resident tax rates are:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on income above $190,000

Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (with possible reductions for low-income earners). Our calculator uses these rates to estimate your take-home pay. Note that HELP debts, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not included.

Superannuation Paid on Top

Your employer must pay superannuation guarantee contributions equal to 12% of your ordinary time earnings. This is paid on top of your salary, not deducted from it. For a concreter earning $59,280 per year, the super contribution would be $7,113.60, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. See our super and packaging page for more details.

Using the Hourly to Annual Calculator

Our timesheet allows you to enter your base hourly rate and optionally add casual loading. It then calculates:

  • Weekly pay (38 hours)
  • Fortnightly pay
  • Annual gross pay
  • Estimated tax and Medicare
  • Estimated superannuation

Remember: the result is an estimate. For your exact concreter salary, refer to your award or enterprise agreement. You can also use the Fair Work Ombudsman's Pay Calculator for precise award rates.

Average Concreter Salary in Australia

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, average weekly earnings for full-time adult employees in construction (May 2026) are around $2,083.70 per week. However, this includes all roles in the industry. For a concreter specifically, rates vary by state, experience, and project type. The national minimum wage provides a floor, but award rates and market conditions often push pay higher.

Summary

  • Annual gross = hourly rate × 38 × 52
  • Fortnightly = weekly × 2
  • Casual loading = 25% on top of base rate
  • Super = 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top
  • Tax uses 2026–27 resident rates plus 2% Medicare

Questions people ask next

How do I calculate my annual salary from an hourly rate?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For a full-time concreter, we assume 38 hours per week. For example, $30 per hour × 38 hours × 52 weeks = $59,280 per year. If you are casual, add 25% loading before calculating.

Is superannuation included in my hourly rate?

No. Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings. The super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary time earnings (up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year). So if your annual salary is $60,000, your employer must pay an additional $7,200 into your super fund.

What is the difference between the national minimum wage and an award rate for concreters?

The national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour from 1 July 2026. However, most concreters are covered by the Building and Construction General On-site Award, which sets higher minimum rates depending on classification and experience. Always check your award or use the Fair Work Ombudsman's Pay Calculator for your exact rate.
