How to Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay: Casual Loading, Super, and the eml salary packaging login

For a 38-hour week, annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 38 then by 52, before tax and super.

Converting Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay

If you have an hourly rate or a salary offer and want to know the annual figure, the basic formula is straightforward: hourly rate × hours per week × 52. This article assumes a standard full-time week of 38 hours, as set by the Fair Work Commission. For example, a rate of $30 per hour gives $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280 per year before tax and super.

To see your fortnightly pay, multiply your weekly earnings by 2. Using the same example: $30 × 38 = $1,140 per week, so $2,280 per fortnight. This can help you budget between pay cycles.

Important Assumptions

The annual figure here assumes you work the same number of hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. It is an estimate, not a determination of your actual pay. For a personalised calculation, use the timesheet.

Understanding the National Minimum Wage and Award Rates

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Casual employees receive a 25% loading, making the minimum casual rate $33.05 per hour. These rates are set by the Fair Work Commission.

Many employees are covered by awards or enterprise agreements that set higher minimum rates. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for specific industries. If you are on an award, your rate may be above the national minimum. This site’s pay guides can help you find the correct classification.

Casual Loading: 25% on Top

Casual loading compensates for the lack of paid leave entitlements. When using the timesheet, enter your base hourly rate (the rate before loading) and tick the checkbox for casual loading. The calculator will add 25% on top. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading.

For example, if your base rate is $26.44, ticking casual loading gives $33.05 per hour. Superannuation is paid on the loaded rate. For more details, see casual loading.

Superannuation: Paid on Top of Your Earnings

Super guarantee contributions are 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your gross pay. They are not deducted from your take-home pay. The maximum contribution base for 2026–27 is $270,830, meaning super stops accruing once your earnings exceed that amount.

For a $59,280 annual gross, the estimated super contribution is $7,113.60. However, if your annual earnings are above $270,830, super is capped. The calculator on this site estimates super based on ordinary earnings and respects the cap. Learn more at super and packaging.

Tax and Medicare for 2026–27

Resident tax rates for 2026–27 are:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15% on excess over $18,200
  • $45,001 – $135,000: 30% on excess over $45,000
  • $135,001 – $190,000: 37% on excess over $135,000
  • $190,001+: 45% on excess over $190,000

Medicare levy is generally 2% of your taxable income. The calculator uses the 2025–25 single reduction thresholds (since the 2026–27 reduction thresholds are not confirmed here). For a single person with $59,280 taxable income, tax is approximately $8,304 plus Medicare $1,185.60 Medicare, giving total deductions of about $9,489.60. Your take-home pay would be around $49,790.40 per year, or $1,914 per fortnight.

The Role of Salary Packaging and the eml salary packaging login

Salary packaging (or salary sacrifice) allows you to pay for certain items from your pre-tax income, reducing your taxable income and increasing take-home pay. Common items include cars, laptops, or super contributions. However, the calculator on this site does not include salary packaging.

If you have a salary packaging arrangement through a provider like EML, you can see the exact effect on your pay by logging into your account. The eml salary packaging login portal shows your packaged amounts, deductions, and remaining taxable income. Use that information alongside the calculator to get a complete picture of your annual pay.

Important Disclaimer

Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

How do I convert my hourly rate to annual pay?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then by 52. If you work a standard 38-hour week, the formula is: hourly rate × 38 × 52. For example, $30 per hour gives $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280 per year. This assumes the same rate every week with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances.

Does the calculator include casual loading?

Yes, the timesheet on this site has a checkbox to add 25% casual loading on top of the base hourly rate. You should enter your base rate (without loading) and tick the box if you are a casual employee. The National Minimum Wage for casuals from 1 July 2026 is $33.05 per hour, which is the base $26.44 plus 25% loading.

How is superannuation calculated?

Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings at 12% (the super guarantee rate for 2026–27). It is not deducted from your pay. For example, if your annual gross is $59,280, the super contribution would be $7,113.60, but only up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. The calculator estimates super based on ordinary earnings and stops at that cap.
