Hourly to Annual Salary: How to Use Home Loan Salary Sacrifice with Your Pay
For a full-time 38-hour week, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 38 hours times 52 weeks.
Understanding the Conversion
Converting your hourly rate to an annual salary is straightforward: multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For a standard full-time role, we assume 38 hours per week, as defined by the Fair Work Ombudsman. This gives your gross annual pay before tax, super, and any deductions.
For example, if your base hourly rate is $30.00, your annual gross pay would be $30.00 × 38 × 52 = $59,280. If you work part-time or different hours, adjust the weekly hours accordingly. Our the timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and see the annual equivalent instantly.
Casual Loading and Super
If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to casual loading – an extra 25% on top of your base rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave. For instance, the National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour for permanent employees, but casual employees receive $33.05 per hour (including 25% loading). When using our timesheet, check the casual loading box to add 25% to your base rate. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading – the checkbox adds it for you.
Superannuation (super) is paid on top of your ordinary earnings at the super guarantee rate of 12% (from 1 July 2026). Super is not deducted from your pay; your employer pays it separately. The maximum contribution base is $270,830 per year. For example, on a $59,280 annual salary, your employer would contribute $7,113.60 in super. Our calculator estimates super based on ordinary earnings only, and it stops at the maximum base.
Tax and Medicare
Tax is calculated using the 2026–27 resident tax rates: nil on the first $18,200, 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000, 30% on $45,001 to $135,000, 37% on $135,001 to $190,000, and 45% above $190,000. The Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income, with reductions for low-income earners using 2025–26 thresholds (as 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed). Our calculator applies these rates but does not include the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP repayments, or any offsets.
Home Loan Salary Sacrifice
Home loan salary sacrifice is an arrangement where your employer directs part of your pre-tax salary to your home loan, reducing your taxable income. This can lower your tax bill and help you pay off your mortgage faster. However, our calculator assumes no salary sacrifice – it shows your pay without any packaging. If you use home loan salary sacrifice, your taxable income will be lower, which may affect your tax, super, and other entitlements. The Australian Taxation Office regulates salary sacrifice, and it must be agreed with your employer. For more details, see our super and packaging page.
Using the Timesheet
Our the timesheet is the home page where you enter your base hourly rate. A checkbox adds 25% casual loading on top. The calculator then shows your annual gross pay, fortnightly pay (weekly × 2), estimated tax, Medicare, super, and take-home pay. It uses the assumptions above. Remember, this is an estimate – actual pay may vary due to penalties, allowances, or different hours.
For award-specific rates, see our pay guides. For industry averages, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reports Average Weekly Earnings: full-time adult ordinary time $2,083.70 per week (May 2026). All employees total earnings average $1,579.20 per week (includes part-time). These are averages, not medians for your specific job. For job-specific pay, see our job pay page.
Important Notes
- Annual pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice.
- Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top, up to the $270,830 maximum contribution base.
- Tax uses 2026–27 resident rates with full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses 2025–26 single reduction thresholds (2026–27 not confirmed).
- HELP, Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted.
- This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
