How to Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Salary: The Lamine Yamal Salary Method

To convert an hourly rate to annual salary, multiply by hours per week (usually 38) and 52 weeks; for the National Minimum Wage of $26.44/hour, annual gross is about $52,265.

How to Convert Hourly to Annual Salary

Whether you're comparing a lamine yamal salary or your own job offer, the method is the same: multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by 52 weeks. For a standard full-time employee working 38 ordinary hours per week, the formula is:

Annual gross ≈ hourly rate × 38 × 52

For example, an employee on the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour earns:

$26.44 × 38 = $1,004.72 per week (the Fair Work Commission states $1,004.90 per week, a slight rounding difference).

$1,004.72 × 52 = $52,245.44 per year (using the exact weekly figure: $1,004.90 × 52 = $52,254.80).

If you are paid fortnightly, simply multiply the weekly amount by 2: $1,004.90 × 2 = $2,009.80 per fortnight.

This calculation assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. It is a starting point for estimating your annual pay.

Using the Timesheet Tool

Our the timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate. A checkbox adds 25% casual loading on top of that rate – never enter a rate that already includes casual loading. The tool then shows your annual gross, fortnightly pay, estimated tax, and super.

National Minimum Wage and Award Rates

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours, as set by the Fair Work Commission. Casual employees receive a 25% loading, making the casual rate $33.05 per hour.

Award minimum wages also increased by 4.75% from 1 July 2026, according to the Fair Work Ombudsman. If you are covered by an award, your minimum rate may be higher than the National Minimum Wage. Check the relevant pay guide using our pay guides page.

For award/agreement-free employees, the National Minimum Wage applies. Special rates exist for juniors, apprentices, and employees with disability.

Tax and Medicare Levy on Your Annual Salary

Once you have your gross annual figure, you can estimate tax using the 2026–27 resident tax brackets:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15% on excess over $18,200
  • $45,001 – $135,000: 30% on excess over $45,000
  • $135,001 – $190,000: 37% on excess over $135,000
  • $190,001 and above: 45% on excess over $190,000

Plus the Medicare levy of 2% on taxable income.

Example: On a gross annual salary of $52,254.80 (National Minimum Wage):

  • Tax: $0 on first $18,200, then 15% on $27,054.80 = $4,058.22
  • Medicare levy: 2% of $52,254.80 = $1,045.10
  • Total tax: $5,103.32
  • Net annual pay: $47,151.48

This estimate uses the full tax-free threshold and the 2025–26 Medicare levy reduction thresholds (since 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed). HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted.

For a higher rate – say, a hypothetical lamine yamal salary of $50 per hour – the annual gross would be $50 × 38 × 52 = $98,800. Tax on that would be:

  • $0 on $18,200
  • 15% on $26,800 ($4,020)
  • 30% on $53,800 ($16,140)
  • Total tax: $20,160
  • Medicare: $1,976
  • Net: $76,664

Superannuation Guarantee

Super is paid on top of your gross salary. The super guarantee rate is 12% of ordinary earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. On a $52,254.80 salary, super would be $6,270.58. This is not deducted from your pay; it is an additional contribution by your employer.

Average Weekly Earnings Context

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that full-time adult ordinary time earnings averaged $2,083.70 per week in May 2026. All employees (including part-time) averaged $1,579.20 per week. These figures help you compare your converted annual salary against national averages. See our average pay page for more.

Summary

Converting hourly to annual is straightforward: hourly × hours per week × 52. Use 38 hours for a standard full-time week. Remember to add casual loading if applicable, and estimate tax and super separately. Whether you are checking a lamine yamal salary or your own rate, this method gives you a clear picture of your annual earnings.

Questions people ask next

What is the formula to convert hourly to annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For a standard full-time week of 38 hours, the formula is: hourly rate × 38 × 52. This gives your gross annual pay before tax and other deductions.

How does casual loading affect the annual calculation?

Casual loading is an extra 25% on top of the base hourly rate. If you select the casual loading checkbox in the timesheet, the tool adds 25% to your base rate before calculating annual pay. For example, the National Minimum Wage of $26.44/hour becomes $33.05/hour, increasing the annual gross accordingly.

How is tax and Medicare levy applied to annual salary?

Tax is calculated using the 2026–27 resident tax brackets: nil up to $18,200, 15% from $18,201 to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000, and 45% above that. The Medicare levy is 2% of taxable income. These are deducted from your gross annual pay to estimate your net take-home amount.
