Not for Profit Salary Packaging: Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay (2026–27)

Based on a 38-hour week and 52 weeks per year, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 1976 hours.

Understanding Your Hourly to Annual Conversion

If you’re paid by the hour or considering a salary offer, converting between hourly and annual figures helps you compare jobs and plan your budget. Our the timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add 25% casual loading. The result shows your annual gross, fortnightly pay, estimated tax, Medicare levy, and super guarantee.

The Formula

Annual gross = hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks. For a standard full‑time employee, we assume 38 hours per week. So if you earn $30 per hour, your annual gross is $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280. This calculation assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, and no allowances.

Fortnightly Pay

Many Australian workers are paid fortnightly. To get your fortnightly gross, multiply your weekly pay by 2. Using the example above, weekly pay is $30 × 38 = $1,140, so fortnightly gross is $2,280. The calculator shows this figure alongside the annual estimate.

National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates

The minimum wage set by the Fair Work Commission from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Casual employees receive an additional 25% loading, making the casual minimum $33.05 per hour. However, many industries have award rates that are higher than the national minimum. For example, the Aged Care Award or the Hospitality Award may specify higher base rates for certain classifications. The calculator uses the rate you enter – it does not apply an award rate automatically. If you are unsure which award applies, check your employment contract or visit the Fair Work Ombudsman’s pay guides.

Casual Loading

If you are a casual employee, your hourly rate should include the 25% loading. Our calculator has a checkbox to add 25% on top of the base rate you type. Never type a rate that already includes casual loading – always enter the base rate and let the calculator add the loading. This ensures the super guarantee is calculated correctly on the ordinary earnings (the base rate without loading).

Super Guarantee and Tax

Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid on top of your gross pay. For 2026–27, the maximum contribution base is $270,830. Earnings above that do not attract compulsory super. The calculator estimates super based on your annual gross, but stops at the cap.

Tax is estimated using the 2026–27 resident tax scale: nil on the first $18,200, 15% from $18,201 to $45,000, 30% from $45,001 to $135,000, 37% from $135,001 to $190,000, and 45% above $190,000. The Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income, with reductions available for low‑income earners. This calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this reference. It does not deduct HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, or any salary packaging.

Not for Profit Salary Packaging

If you work for a not‑for‑profit organisation, you may be eligible for salary packaging – also called salary sacrifice. This allows you to pay for certain expenses (such as mortgage, rent, or living costs) from your pre‑tax income, reducing your taxable income and increasing your take‑home pay. The Australian Taxation Office sets limits on how much you can package each year. While our calculator does not include salary packaging, understanding your annual gross is the first step. You can then estimate the tax saving by reducing your taxable income by the packaged amount. For more details, see our super and packaging page.

Average Earnings Context

The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Average Weekly Earnings (May 2026) show full‑time adult ordinary time earnings of $2,083.70 per week, and all employees total earnings (including part‑time) of $1,579.20 per week. These are averages across all industries and occupations, not a median for your specific job. Use them as a broad benchmark, not a target for your role.

Important Disclaimer

Annual pay shown here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax‑free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax. For personalised advice, consult a qualified accountant or the Australian Taxation Office.

Questions people ask next

How do I convert my hourly rate to annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then by 52 weeks. For a standard full‑time role, we assume 38 hours per week, so annual gross = hourly rate × 38 × 52. This gives a base figure before tax, super, or any salary packaging adjustments.

What is the difference between the National Minimum Wage and an award rate?

The National Minimum Wage is the legal floor set by the Fair Work Commission, currently $26.44 per hour (from 1 July 2026). Award rates are industry‑specific minimums that may be higher. Many awards also include casual loading (typically 25%) on top of the base rate. The calculator lets you add casual loading separately – never enter a rate that already includes it.

How does not for profit salary packaging affect my take-home pay?

Not for profit salary packaging allows you to pay for certain expenses (e.g., mortgage, rent, living costs) from pre‑tax income, reducing your taxable income. This calculator does not model salary packaging, but it can still show your gross and estimated tax. For a personalised estimate, speak with your employer or a tax professional.
