Podiatry salary: hourly rates, casual loading and super paid on top

Podiatrists covered by the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020 have minimum hourly rates from $32.44 (Level 1, AQF5, 1st year) based on 38 ordinary hours per week.

Understanding your podiatry salary

Your podiatry salary can be calculated from an hourly rate if you know your classification and hours. The standard assumption for full-time work is 38 ordinary hours per week, as set by the Fair Work Act and most modern awards. To find your annual gross pay, multiply your hourly rate by 38, then by 52 weeks:

Annual gross ≈ hourly rate × 38 × 52

For example, a podiatrist on $32.44 per hour earns approximately $64,125 per year before tax. A fortnightly pay would be about $2,466 (weekly × 2).

If you are casual, your hourly rate includes a 25% loading. You should not type a rate that already includes loading into our timesheet. Instead, enter the base award rate and check the casual loading box – the calculator will add the 25% on top.

Award coverage for podiatrists

Most podiatrists in private practice or community health are covered by the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020. This award sets minimum rates for Support Services employees and Health Professional employees. Podiatrists fall under the Health Professional classification.

The award provides minimum weekly and hourly rates based on your AQF qualification level and years of experience. For a Level 1 Health Professional with an AQF Level 5 qualification (e.g. Diploma), the rates are:

  • 1st year: $32.44/hour
  • 2nd–3rd year: $34.44/hour
  • 4th–6th year: $37.53/hour
  • 7th year+: $40.56/hour

These rates apply from 1 July 2026, as shown in the Fair Work Commission’s Modern Awards Pay Database. If you hold a bachelor’s degree (AQF Level 7) or higher, you may be classified at a higher level. Check the award or speak to your employer for your specific pay point.

For employees not covered by an award, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour ($1,004.90 per week for 38 hours). Casual employees receive a 25% loading, making it $33.05 per hour.

Casual loading and superannuation

Casual loading

Casual employees under the award are paid a 25% loading on top of the minimum hourly rate. This compensates for not receiving paid leave or other entitlements. For a podiatrist on $32.44 per hour, the casual rate is $40.55 per hour. Our casual loading page explains how to apply it correctly.

Superannuation

Superannuation is paid on top of your salary. The super guarantee rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings (from 1 July 2026), up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. For a full-time podiatrist earning $64,125 per year, the employer contributes an extra $7,695 to your super fund. This is not part of your take-home pay. See super and packaging for details.

Tax and take-home pay

Your take-home pay depends on your total taxable income. For the 2026–27 financial year, the resident tax rates are:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15% on excess over $18,200
  • $45,001 – $135,000: 30% on excess over $45,000
  • $135,001 – $190,000: 37% on excess over $135,000
  • $190,001+: 45% on excess over $190,000

Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (single reduction thresholds not confirmed for 2026–27, so we use 2025–26 thresholds).

For a podiatrist earning $64,125, the estimated tax is about $11,088 plus Medicare levy of $1,283, leaving take-home pay of approximately $51,754 per year. Use our take-home pay calculator for a personalised estimate.

Using the timesheet

Our timesheet helps you convert your hourly rate to annual, fortnightly, and weekly figures. Enter your base hourly rate (without casual loading) and check the casual loading box if applicable. The calculator uses 38 hours per week and 52 weeks per year. It also estimates super and tax based on the figures above.

Remember: this is an estimate. Your actual pay may differ due to overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. Always refer to your award or employment agreement for exact conditions.

Average podiatry earnings

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, full-time adult average weekly ordinary time earnings were $2,083.70 in May 2026. Podiatry salaries vary widely by experience, location, and sector. For more context, see our average pay page.

For award-free employees, the national minimum wage applies. For award-covered employees, the minimum rates in the Health Professionals Award are the starting point. Many podiatrists earn above the award rate.
