Project Management Salary: Hourly to Annual Calculator for 2026-27
For a project management role, a typical full-time adult ordinary time earnings of $2,083.70 per week (ABS May 2026) equates to about $108,352 annually before tax and super.
Understanding Your Project Management Salary
Whether you are negotiating a new role or reviewing your current pay, converting an hourly rate to an annual salary helps you compare offers and plan your finances. In Australia, the standard full-time working week is 38 hours, and most calculations assume a 52-week year. This article explains how to convert your project management salary, what minimum rates apply, and how casual loading, superannuation, and tax fit in.
The Basic Conversion Formula
The simplest way to estimate your annual gross pay is:
Hourly rate × hours per week × 52
For a 38-hour week, that becomes:
Hourly rate × 38 × 52
For example, if your project management hourly rate is $60, your annual gross would be $60 × 38 × 52 = $118,560. This figure assumes you work every week of the year with no unpaid leave, no overtime, and no penalty rates. It is a starting point for budgeting and comparing job offers.
Fortnightly Pay
Many employers pay fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross, multiply your weekly pay by 2. Using the same $60 per hour example, your weekly pay is $2,280, so fortnightly gross is $4,560. This can help you align your budget with your pay cycle.
National Minimum Wage and Award Rates
From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour or $1,004.90 per week for a 38-hour week, as set by the Fair Work Ombudsman. Most project management roles are covered by an award, such as the Clerks—Private Sector Award 2020 or the Professional Employees Award. The Clerks Award, for example, sets minimum rates for classifications like Level 3 at $31.11 per hour and Level 5 at $33.99 per hour from 1 July 2026. These are minimums; many project managers earn above award rates.
Casual Loading
If you work as a casual project manager, you are entitled to a 25% casual loading on top of the minimum hourly rate. For a Level 3 classification, the casual rate would be $31.11 × 1.25 = $38.89 per hour. This loading replaces entitlements like paid annual leave and sick leave. Our casual loading page explains how to calculate it correctly.
Superannuation
Employers must pay superannuation on top of your ordinary earnings. From 1 July 2026, the super guarantee rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. For a project management salary of $100,000, your employer would contribute an additional $12,000 to your super fund. This is not deducted from your pay; it is an extra benefit. See super and packaging for more details.
Tax and Take-Home Pay
Your annual gross salary is subject to income tax and the Medicare levy. For 2026-27, the tax rates for residents are:
- Nil on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Plus a 2% Medicare levy (based on 2025-26 single reduction thresholds). Use our take-home pay calculator to estimate your net pay after tax and Medicare.
Project Management Salary Benchmarks
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, full-time adult ordinary time earnings were $2,083.70 per week as of May 2026, which equates to about $108,352 annually. Project management salaries vary widely by industry, experience, and location. Senior project managers in construction or IT often earn well above this average. Using the Timesheet Calculator
To convert your own hourly rate to annual, fortnightly, or weekly figures, use the timesheet on our home page. Enter your base hourly rate (do not include casual loading—use the checkbox to add it). The calculator will show your gross annual, fortnightly, and weekly amounts, plus estimated super and tax. It assumes a 38-hour week and 52 weeks per year, with no unpaid overtime or allowances.
Important Disclaimer
Annual pay estimates are based on hourly rate × hours per week × 52. They assume the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026-27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025-26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026-27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
For official pay rates and conditions, refer to the Fair Work Ombudsman's pay guides and the Fair Work Commission's modern awards.
