Quant Salary: Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay in Australia
Based on a 38-hour week, the national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour, equating to $52,254.80 annually before tax and super.
How to Quant Salary from Hourly to Annual
When you need to quant salary—that is, turn an hourly rate into a yearly figure—the basic formula is straightforward: multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. For most full-time employees in Australia, the standard week is 38 hours, as set by the Fair Work Act. This is the assumption used throughout the timesheet and in the calculations below.
The Formula
Annual gross pay = hourly rate × hours per week × 52
For example, if you earn $30 per hour and work 38 hours each week:
$30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280 per year before tax and super.
If you are paid fortnightly, your gross fortnight is simply the weekly amount times two. Using the same example, weekly pay is $1,140, so fortnightly pay is $2,280.
The National Minimum Wage and Award Rates
From 1 July 2026, the national minimum wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours, according to the Fair Work Commission. This is the minimum for award/agreement-free employees. Most workers are covered by an award or enterprise agreement that sets higher rates. You can check the pay guides from the Fair Work Ombudsman for your industry.
Casual Loading
Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate to compensate for lack of paid leave. For the national minimum wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour. When you quant salary as a casual, always start with the base rate and then add the loading. The timesheet on this site has a checkbox to apply the 25% loading automatically. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading—let the tool do the addition.
Superannuation Paid on Top
Super guarantee contributions are paid by your employer on top of your ordinary earnings. For 2026–27, the rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. This means if your annual salary is $60,000, your employer contributes an extra $7,200 to your super fund. The annual figure you see in the timesheet does not include super; it is additional. Tax and Take-Home Pay
Once you have your annual gross salary, you can estimate your tax using the 2026–27 resident tax rates:
- $0 – $18,200: nil
- $18,201 – $45,000: 15%
- $45,001 – $135,000: 30%
- $135,001 – $190,000: 37%
- Over $190,000: 45%
Plus a Medicare levy of 2% (generally). The take-home pay estimate on this site uses these rates and the single reduction thresholds for Medicare from 2025–26 (as 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed). Note that HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted.
Example: Full-Time vs Casual
| Employment type | Hourly rate | Weekly (38 hrs) | Annual (52 weeks) | Super (12% on top) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Permanent full-time | $35.00 | $1,330.00 | $72,800.00 | $8,736.00 |
| Casual (with 25% loading | $43.75 | $1,330.00 | $72,800.00 | $8,736.00 |
Note: The casual rate is $43.75 (base $35 + 25% loading). The annual gross is the same as permanent because the loading is already included in the hourly rate. Super is 12% of $72,800 = $8,736.
Fortnightly Perspective
If you are paid fortnightly, your gross pay is your weekly amount times two. For a $30/hour permanent employee: $1,140 × 2 = $2,280 per fortnight. This is useful for budgeting and comparing with salary offers.
Important Disclaimer
This estimate is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted.
