Salary Packaging WA: Convert Hourly to Annual Pay with 38-Hour Week

For a full-time 38-hour week, annual gross pay is hourly rate × 38 × 52, with super added on top.

How to Convert Hourly to Annual Pay

When you have an hourly rate, the simplest way to estimate your annual salary is to multiply by the number of hours you work each week and then by 52 weeks. For a full-time employee on a standard 38‑hour week, the formula is:

Annual gross ≈ hourly rate × 38 × 52

This calculation gives you a base figure before tax, Medicare, and super. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. For a more detailed estimate, you can use our the timesheet to enter your base hourly rate and optionally add casual loading.

The 38‑Hour Week and the Fortnight

The Fair Work Commission sets the National Minimum Wage for a 38‑hour week. From 1 July 2026, the minimum is $26.44 per hour, which equals $1,004.90 per week and $52,254.80 per year (before tax). If you are paid fortnightly, your gross pay is simply your weekly pay × 2. For example, a full‑time adult on the minimum wage would receive $2,009.80 per fortnight.

For employees under an award or enterprise agreement, your ordinary hours may differ, but the 38‑hour week is the standard benchmark. Our reference tables provide more examples.

Casual Loading and Casual Pay

If you are a casual employee, you receive a 25% loading on top of your base rate. The Fair Work Ombudsman states that casual loading is paid in addition to the base hourly rate, not included in the rate itself. For the National Minimum Wage, the casual rate is $33.05 per hour (including 25% loading). When you use our the timesheet, you can check a box to add 25% casual loading on top of your base hourly rate. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading; the loading is applied separately.

Super Guarantee Paid on Top

Superannuation is not deducted from your pay; it is paid on top of your ordinary earnings. The super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, up to the $270,830 maximum contribution base. For a full‑time employee, super is added to your annual gross before tax. For example, a full‑time worker on the minimum wage of $26.44 per hour, super on top is $3,174.24 per year (12% of $26.44 × 38 × 52). Our super and packaging page explains how salary packaging WA may affect your take‑home pay.

Tax and Take‑Home Pay

Tax is calculated on your taxable income using the 2026–27 resident tax scale: nil to $18,200; 15% from $18,201 to $45,000; 30% from $45,001 to $135,000; 37% from $135,001 to $190,000; 45% above $190,000. Medicare levy generally 2% (using 2025–26 single reduction thresholds as the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here). HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted in this estimate. For a quick idea of net pay, see our take-home pay page.

Average Pay in Australia

The Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Average Weekly Earnings for May 2026 show full‑time adult ordinary time $2,083.70 per week. For Western Australia, the full‑time ordinary time average is $2,227.40 per week. Note that these are averages, not medians for a specific job. Our average pay page has more details.

Using the Hourly Conversion

Our hourly conversion tool helps you switch between hourly and annual figures. Remember that the formula assumes 52 weeks, 38 hours per week. If you work fewer hours, adjust accordingly. For part‑time or casual, your annual figure will be lower.

Salary Packaging WA

Salary packaging WA is a way to reduce your taxable income by sacrificing part of your salary for benefits such as a car or super contributions. This can affect your take‑home pay and tax calculations. When using our timesheet, note that salary packaging is not included in the estimate. For more information, see our super and packaging page.

Summary
