Use the seek salary checker to convert your hourly rate to annual, fortnightly and take-home pay

The seek salary checker converts an hourly rate to annual, fortnightly and weekly pay based on a 38-hour week, including tax, Medicare and super estimates for 2026-27.

Use the seek salary checker to convert your hourly rate

Whether you are negotiating a new job, comparing offers, or just curious about your pay, the seek salary checker on this site gives you a clear breakdown of your hourly rate into annual, fortnightly and weekly figures. It also estimates tax, Medicare and superannuation so you know what you will actually take home.

How the conversion works

The formula is straightforward: hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks. Because most full-time roles are based on a 38-hour week, the calculator assumes 38 hours unless you change it. For example, if you earn $30 per hour:

  • Weekly gross: $30 × 38 = $1,140
  • Fortnightly gross: $1,140 × 2 = $2,280
  • Annual gross: $1,140 × 52 = $59,280

You can also see your fortnightly pay by doubling the weekly amount – useful if you are paid every two weeks. The the timesheet lets you adjust the hours if your role is part-time or irregular.

National Minimum Wage vs award rates

From 1 July 2026, the Fair Work Commission set the national minimum wage at $26.44 per hour for a 38-hour week, or $1,004.90 per week. This is the legal floor for award-free employees. However, most workers are covered by an award or enterprise agreement that sets higher minimums. The Fair Work Ombudsman publishes pay guides for each award, which include penalty rates, allowances and casual loadings. Always check your award before relying on the national minimum wage.

Casual loading

If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to a 25% loading on top of the base rate. On the the timesheet, simply tick the casual loading checkbox and the calculator adds 25% automatically. For the national minimum wage, that works out to $33.05 per hour ($26.44 × 1.25). Do not enter a rate that already includes casual loading – the checkbox does it for you. More details are on the casual loading page.

Superannuation is paid on top

Your employer must pay superannuation guarantee of 12% of your ordinary earnings, and it is paid on top of your base salary. For a $59,280 annual salary, that is an extra $7,113.60 in super. The contribution is capped at the maximum contribution base of $270,830. The calculator shows super separately so you can see your total employment cost. Learn more about super and packaging.

Tax and Medicare for 2026–27

The calculator uses the 2026–27 resident tax rates from the Australian Taxation Office:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15% on the excess over $18,200
  • $45,001 – $135,000: $5,092 plus 30% on the excess over $45,000
  • $135,001 – $190,000: $29,467 plus 37% on the excess over $135,000
  • $190,001+: $51,667 plus 45% on the excess over $190,000

Medicare levy of 2% applies to most taxpayers. The calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of calculation. For a full breakdown of your tax, see the take-home pay page.

Example from the seek salary checker

The pay calculator shows a typical breakdown for a base salary of $84,000. Using the same assumptions, the seek salary checker on this site gives:

  • Weekly gross: $1,615.38
  • Fortnightly gross: $3,230.77
  • Annual gross: $84,000
  • Estimated tax and Medicare: $18,472
  • Take-home pay: $65,528
  • Super (12%): $10,080

This matches the SEEK example closely, confirming the calculator’s accuracy. Note that the SEEK tool includes the same tax rates and Medicare levy.

Differences in ordinary-time earnings

Not everyone works 38 hours or earns the same rate. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Average Weekly Earnings for May 2026 show full-time adult ordinary-time earnings of $2,083.70 per week (about $108,352 annually) and all employees total earnings of $1,579.20 per week (including part-time). These figures are higher than the national minimum wage because they reflect average wages across the economy. The average pay page compares these benchmarks.

Important disclaimer

Annual pay on this site is calculated as hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

For the most accurate figures, always consult your award or agreement and speak to your employer or a tax professional. The minimum wage page has more on legal minimums, and the job pay page covers industry-specific rates.

How do I use the seek salary checker?

Enter your base hourly rate on the timesheet. If you are a casual employee, tick the casual loading checkbox to add 25% on top. You do not need to enter a rate that already includes casual loading.

What is the difference between the National Minimum Wage and award rates?

The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour for a 38-hour week ($1,004.90 per week) and applies to employees not covered by an award or agreement. Does the calculator include superannuation?

Yes. Super is estimated at 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid on top of your base salary. The estimate stops at the maximum contribution base of $270,830. The calculator does not include salary sacrifice or other super arrangements.
