Singapore Minimum Wage vs Australian Pay: Hourly to Annual Conversion Guide
Based on a 38-hour week, the Australian National Minimum Wage is $26.44/hour, annualising to $52,262.72 before tax and super.
Singapore Minimum Wage and Australian Pay: What You Need to Know
While Singapore’s minimum wage is set by sector-specific guidelines rather than a single national rate, Australia uses a clear National Minimum Wage (NMW) that applies to most employees. This guide helps you convert an hourly rate to annual, fortnightly, and weekly figures, and explains how tax and super affect your take-home pay. Whether you’re comparing the singapore minimum wage to Australian rates or simply working out your own salary, the principles are the same.
The Basic Formula: Hourly × Hours × 52
To convert an hourly rate to an annual salary, use:
Annual gross = hourly rate × hours per week × 52
For a standard full-time role, we assume 38 hours per week (the ordinary hours under the Fair Work Act). For example:
- $26.44/hour (NMW) × 38 × 52 = $52,262.72 per year
- $30/hour × 38 × 52 = $59,280 per year
- $40/hour × 38 × 52 = $79,040 per year
If you work part-time or casual, use your actual weekly hours. The formula assumes the same rate every week with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances.
Fortnightly and Weekly Pay
Many Australian employees are paid fortnightly. To find your fortnightly gross:
- Weekly pay = hourly rate × hours per week
- Fortnightly pay = weekly pay × 2
Using the NMW example: $26.44 × 38 = $1,004.72 per week, or $2,009.44 per fortnight. This matches the Fair Work Ombudsman’s weekly figure of $1,004.90 (rounded).
National Minimum Wage vs Award Rates vs Casual Loading
The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. This is the legal minimum for employees not covered by an award or registered agreement.
Award rates are higher minimums set by the Fair Work Commission for specific industries (e.g., hospitality, retail, construction). They often include penalty rates for evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Always check your pay guides to see if an award applies to you.
Casual loading is an extra 25% on top of the base rate, compensating for the lack of paid leave. The casual NMW is $33.05 per hour ($26.44 × 1.25). When using our timesheet, never enter a rate that already includes casual loading—use the base rate and tick the casual loading checkbox instead.
Superannuation: Paid on Top
Employers must pay super guarantee at 12% of your ordinary earnings (2026–27 rate). This is on top of your gross salary, not deducted from it. For a $52,262.72 annual salary, super adds $6,271.53 per year, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830. Super is not included in the annual figure we calculate—it’s an extra cost for the employer.
Tax and Medicare Levy (2026–27)
Your annual gross is subject to resident tax and the Medicare levy. The 2026–27 tax rates are:
- Nil on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income. For 2025–26, the low-income threshold for singles is $24,276 (no levy below that). The 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this guide, so we use the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds. If your income is below $24,276, you pay no Medicare levy. Above that, the full 2% applies.
Example tax calculation for $52,262.72 (NMW annual):
- Tax-free: $18,200
- 15% on $26,800 ($45,000 – $18,200) = $4,020
- 30% on $7,262.72 ($52,262.72 – $45,000) = $2,178.82
- Total tax: $6,198.82
- Medicare levy: 2% of $52,262.72 = $1,045.25 (assuming above threshold)
- Net pay: $52,262.72 – $6,198.82 – $1,045.25 = $45,018.65 per year

Comparing Singapore Minimum Wage
Singapore does not have a single national minimum wage. Instead, the government sets sector-specific wage guidelines (e.g., for cleaners, security guards) through the Progressive Wage Model. As of 2025, the minimum monthly salary for a cleaner is around S$1,500 (about A$1,700). That equates to roughly A$10.60 per hour based on a 44-hour week—well below Australia’s NMW. However, Singapore’s cost of living and tax system differ significantly. When comparing the singapore minimum wage to Australian rates, remember that Australia’s NMW includes super and leave entitlements, while Singapore’s model focuses on basic pay without mandated super (though CPF contributions apply).
Important Disclaimer
Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.
