How to Calculate the Travis Head Salary: Hourly to Annual for a 38-Hour Week

For a 38-hour week, multiply the hourly rate by 1,976 hours to get the annual gross. After tax and Medicare, take-home is lower; super is paid on top.

How the Hourly-to-Annual Conversion Works

The core formula is simple: multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then by 52 weeks. For full-time employees under most awards, the standard ordinary hours are 38 per week. That gives 1,976 paid hours per year (38 × 52). This assumption is used throughout our the timesheet and all calculations on this page.

For example, at $55 per hour on a 38-hour week, your annual gross salary is $108,680 ($55 × 38 × 52). After income tax and the Medicare levy for 2026–27, your take-home pay is approximately $83,382 per year. That works out to $3,207 per fortnight.

The hours assumption is critical. If you use 40 hours instead, the same $55 rate gives $114,400 per year – a difference of $5,720. Always check your award or enterprise agreement for your ordinary hours.

The National Minimum Wage and Award Rates

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. This is set by the Fair Work Commission and applies to employees not covered by an award. Award minimum wages increased by 4.75% from the same date. You can find specific award rates in the pay guides from the Fair Work Ombudsman.

Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of the minimum rate, making the casual National Minimum Wage $33.05 per hour. This loading compensates for the lack of paid leave. Our calculator includes a checkbox to add the 25% casual loading automatically – never enter a rate that already includes loading.

Award vs Enterprise Agreement

Pay guides from the Fair Work Ombudsman list minimum rates for each award classification. However, if your workplace has an enterprise agreement that has passed the better-off-overall test, the agreement rates apply instead. Always check which instrument covers you.

Tax and Medicare for 2026–27

The Australian Taxation Office uses a progressive tax scale for residents. For 2026–27, the brackets are:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15¢ per dollar
  • $45,001 – $135,000: 30¢ per dollar
  • $135,001 – $190,000: 37¢ per dollar
  • $190,001 and over: 45¢ per dollar

The Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income, with reductions for low-income earners. Our calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of calculation.

Using the $55/hour example: annual gross $108,680. Tax is calculated in slices: nil on first $18,200, 15% on next $26,800 ($4,020), 30% on the remaining $63,680 ($19,104), total tax $23,124. Medicare levy at 2% is $2,173.60, giving total tax and Medicare of $25,297.60. Take-home is $83,382.40.

Fortnightly Withholding

Employers use the ATO's fortnightly tax table to withhold the correct amount. For a fortnightly gross of $4,180, the withholding for someone claiming the tax-free threshold is approximately $973. This table also accounts for study and training loan debts if your employee has notified you.

Superannuation Is Paid on Top

Employer superannuation contributions are not deducted from your hourly rate. The Super Guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. For 2026–27, the maximum contribution base is $270,830. Super is shown separately in our results because it never reduces your take-home pay.

The Fortnightly View

Many people are paid fortnightly. To get your gross fortnightly pay, multiply your weekly gross by 2. For $55/hour on 38 hours: weekly gross is $2,090, fortnightly gross is $4,180. After tax and Medicare, the fortnightly take-home is about $3,207. The ATO provides a fortnightly tax table for employers to withhold the correct amount.

The Travis Head Salary Example

If you're curious about the Travis Head salary, the same conversion method applies. While we don't have his exact hourly rate or contract details, the principle is identical: multiply his hourly rate by 38 hours per week and 52 weeks to get the annual figure. Then apply tax and Medicare. Professional athletes often have complex contracts with retainers, match fees, and bonuses, but the base hourly conversion is a starting point for understanding the ordinary-time component.

Using the Timesheet

Our the timesheet lets you enter any base hourly rate. Check the box for casual loading if applicable. The results show annual gross, take-home, and super. You can also explore minimum wage and take-home pay topics for more detail.

Important Limitations

This calculator converts ordinary hours only. It does not include overtime, penalty rates, shift loadings, allowances, or salary sacrifice. It assumes you work the same hours every week of the year, which may not be true for casual or irregular rosters. It does not account for HELP/HECS debts, the Medicare levy surcharge, or study loans. Always consult a payroll professional for your specific situation.

What the Calculator Does Cover
