Convert Your Hourly Rate to a tsmit Salary: A Complete Guide

A tsmit salary is calculated by multiplying your hourly rate by 38 hours per week and 52 weeks per year, giving an annual gross figure before tax and super.

Understanding Your tsmit salary

When you have an hourly rate and want to know your annual equivalent, the standard method is to multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then multiply by 52 weeks. This is the basis of a tsmit salary – the annual gross pay before tax and super.

Most full-time roles in Australia are based on a 38-hour week, as set by the Fair Work Commission. The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour, or $1004.90 per week for 38 hours. For a casual employee, a 25% loading applies, making the casual minimum $33.05 per hour.

The formula for a tsmit salary

To convert your hourly rate to a tsmit salary:

Annual gross = hourly rate × hours per week × 52

If you work 38 hours per week, the formula becomes:

Annual gross = hourly rate × 38 × 52

For example, if your hourly rate is $30.00, your tsmit salary is $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280 per year. This assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, and no allowances.

You can also calculate your fortnightly pay by doubling the weekly figure. For the $30/hour example, weekly pay is $1140, so fortnightly is $2280. This helps with budgeting and comparing salary offers.

Award rates vs the National Minimum Wage

Many employees are covered by an award that sets minimum pay rates higher than the National Minimum Wage. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award, which include minimum rates for full-time, part-time, and casual employees. Always check your award before calculating your tsmit salary, as award rates often include penalties and allowances that change the effective hourly rate.

If you are award/agreement free, the National Minimum Wage applies. Special rates exist for juniors, apprentices, trainees, and employees with disability.

Annualised wages and salaries

Some awards allow annualised wage arrangements, where you receive a fixed amount each pay period that covers minimum pay, penalties, overtime, and allowances. In that case, your tsmit salary is the annualised amount, but it must be reviewed to ensure it is not less than what you would have earned under the award.

If you are paid a salary under a contract, your tsmit salary is simply the annual salary figure. However, you should confirm that the salary covers all award entitlements.

Tax and super on your tsmit salary

Once you have your annual gross tsmit salary, you can estimate your take-home pay using the 2026–27 resident tax scales from the Australian Tax Office:

  • $0 – $18,200: nil
  • $18,201 – $45,000: 15% of excess over $18,200
  • $45,001 – $135,000: 30% of excess over $45,000
  • $135,001 – $190,000: 37% of excess over $135,000
  • $190,001+: 45% of excess over $190,000

Medicare levy is generally 2% of taxable income. The 2025–26 single reduction thresholds are used here as the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed.

Super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid on top of your tsmit salary by your employer. The maximum contribution base is $270,830 per year. For a tsmit salary of $59,280, super would be $7,113.60 (12% of $59,280).

Using the timesheet tool

Our the timesheet lets you enter your base hourly rate and optionally add 25% casual loading. It then calculates your annual tsmit salary, fortnightly pay, tax, and super. The tool uses the Fair Work Commission and ATO figures described above. It does not include HELP repayments, Medicare levy surcharge, or salary packaging.

Important limitations

This tsmit salary calculation is an estimate. It assumes you work 38 hours every week, receive the same rate, and have no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

What is a tsmit salary and how is it calculated?

A tsmit salary is the annual equivalent of your hourly rate, assuming a standard 38-hour week and 52 weeks per year. The formula is: hourly rate × 38 × 52. This gives a gross annual figure. For example, at the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour, the tsmit salary is $26.44 × 38 × 52 = $52,245.44. This calculation does not include casual loading, overtime, or allowances.

How does casual loading affect my tsmit salary?

Casual loading is an additional 25% on top of the base hourly rate, as set by the Fair Work Commission. If you are a casual employee, your tsmit salary should be calculated using the loaded rate. For example, the National Minimum Wage casual rate is $33.05 per hour ($26.33 × 1.25). Your annual tsmit salary would then be $33.05 × 38 × 52 = $65,306.70. Use the [casual loading](/topics/casual-loading) page for more details.

What tax and super should I expect on my tsmit salary?

For the 2026–27 financial year, the Australian Tax Office applies a progressive tax scale: nil up to $18,200, 15% to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000, and 45% above. Medicare levy is 2%. Super guarantee is 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top of your tsmit salary, up to a maximum contribution base of $270,830.
