Use Our Yearly Salary Calculator to Convert Hourly to Annual Pay
For a full-time employee working 38 hours per week, the yearly salary calculator multiplies hourly rate by 38 hours by 52 weeks to give annual gross pay.
Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay with Our Yearly Salary Calculator
Whether you're negotiating a salary offer or checking your current pay, our yearly salary calculator gives you a clear picture of your annual gross income, tax, Medicare levy, and superannuation. It's designed for Australian workers using the standard 38-hour full-time week. Simply enter your hourly rate, and the calculator does the rest.
How the Yearly Salary Calculator Works
The basic formula is straightforward: hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks. For a full-time employee, we assume 38 hours per week, as set by the Fair Work Ombudsman. If you work different hours, you can adjust the hours per week in the calculator (though the default is 38). The result is your annual gross salary before tax and other deductions.
For example, if you earn $30 per hour and work 38 hours a week, your annual gross is $30 × 38 × 52 = $59,280. The calculator also shows your fortnightly pay (weekly pay × 2), which is useful for budgeting. A fortnightly figure of $2,280 ($59,280 ÷ 26) helps you compare with salary offers that are often quoted per fortnight.
National Minimum Wage, Award Rates, and Casual Loading
Australia has a National Minimum Wage set by the Fair Work Commission. From 1 July 2026, it is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Many employees are covered by award rates that are higher than the minimum. The calculator lets you enter any base hourly rate, including award rates.
If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to a 25% casual loading on top of your base rate. Our calculator has a checkbox to add this loading automatically. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading – always enter the base rate, then tick the box. For the minimum wage, the casual rate becomes $33.05 per hour ($26.44 × 1.25).
Superannuation is paid on top of your ordinary earnings. The super guarantee rate is 12% from 1 July 2026, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. The calculator shows the super amount separately – it is not deducted from your pay.
Tax and Medicare on Your Annual Salary
Once you have your annual gross figure, the calculator applies the 2026–27 resident tax rates from the Australian Taxation Office:
- Nil tax on the first $18,200
- 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
- 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
- 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
- 45% on income above $190,000
It also calculates the Medicare levy at 2% of your taxable income. The calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed at the time of this tool's update. The tax estimate assumes you claim the full tax-free threshold and no other offsets or deductions.
For example, on an annual gross of $59,280, your tax would be approximately $8,544 (using the brackets) plus Medicare of $1,186, leaving an estimated take-home pay of $49,550 per year (before super).
Using the Calculator on Our Site
To get started, visit the timesheet. You'll see a field to enter your base hourly rate. If you are casual, tick the '25% casual loading' checkbox – do not add the loading to the rate yourself. The calculator will then display:
- Annual gross pay (hourly × 38 × 52)
- Fortnightly gross pay
- Estimated tax and Medicare
- Estimated superannuation (12% on top)
- Estimated take-home pay

Important Limitations
This yearly salary calculator provides an estimate only. It assumes you work the same number of hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. It does not deduct HELP repayments, the Medicare levy surcharge, or any salary packaging arrangements. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. The tax calculation uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold, and Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds. Always consult a tax professional or the Australian Taxation Office for your personal situation.
Fortnightly Pay and Budgeting
Many employers pay fortnightly, so the calculator also shows your gross fortnightly pay (weekly × 2). For a $30/hour rate, that's $2,280 gross per fortnight. After tax and Medicare, your net fortnightly pay might be around $1,906. This helps you compare with salary offers that are quoted per annum or per fortnight.
Average Weekly Earnings for Context
The Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes Average Weekly Earnings (AWE). In May 2026, full-time adult ordinary time earnings were $2,083.70 per week, and all employees total earnings (including part-time) were $1,579.20 per week. These are averages, not medians for a specific job. Use our average pay page for more details.
