From Hourly to Annual: Understanding Your Pay Like Matt Comyn Salary

Annual pay is hourly rate × 38 hours × 52 weeks, with super and tax estimated on top.

Understanding the Hourly-to-Annual Conversion

Converting an hourly rate to an annual salary is a simple calculation: hourly rate × hours per week × 52. This assumes you work the same number of hours every week, with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, or allowances. For a standard full-time week of 38 hours, the formula becomes hourly × 38 × 52.

The National Minimum Wage

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour, or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. That works out to an annual gross of $52,254.80. Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top, making the casual rate $33.05 per hour. The minimum wage page has more details.

Award Rates and Casual Loading

Most employees are covered by an award, which sets minimum pay rates higher than the National Minimum Wage. Award wages increased by 4.75% from 1 July 2026. Our pay guides list the latest rates. When using our timesheet, you enter your base hourly rate, and a checkbox adds the 25% casual loading on top. Never type a rate that already includes casual loading.

The Fortnightly View

A fortnight is simply your weekly pay multiplied by 2. For the National Minimum Wage, that’s $2,009.80 per fortnight. This is useful for budgeting or comparing salary offers that are quoted fortnightly. Our reference tables include fortnightly equivalents for common rates.

Super Guarantee Paid on Top

Superannuation is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid by your employer on top of your salary. It is not deducted from your gross pay. The maximum contribution base for the super guarantee is $270,830. For example, on an annual salary of $100,000, your employer contributes an extra $12,000 to your super fund. See super and packaging for more.

Tax and the Medicare Levy

Your annual gross pay is subject to income tax and the Medicare levy. For 2026–27, the resident tax rates are:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on income over $190,000

The Medicare levy is generally 2% of your taxable income. These are deducted from your pay, not from your super. Use our take-home pay tool to estimate your net income.

The Matt Comyn Salary Connection

While we don’t have precise data on Matt Comyn’s hourly rate, the same conversion formula applies to any salary. Whether you’re a CEO or a minimum wage worker, annual pay is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. For a high-profile executive like Matt Comyn, the salary is typically reported as an annual figure, but the underlying calculation is identical. The average pay page shows benchmarks like the ABS Average Weekly Earnings for full-time adult ordinary time, which was $2,083.70 per week in May 2026, equating to $108,352.40 per year.

Important Considerations

This conversion assumes a consistent 38-hour week with no unpaid overtime, penalty rates, allowances, or salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax uses the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

How do I convert my hourly rate to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work per week, then by 52. For a standard 38-hour week, the formula is hourly × 38 × 52. For example, the National Minimum Wage of $26.44 per hour gives $52,254.80 per year. If you work casual hours, add the 25% loading to your base rate before multiplying.

What is the National Minimum Wage and how does casual loading work?

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour or $1,004.90 per week for 38 hours. Casual employees receive an additional 25% loading, making the casual rate $33.05 per hour. Award rates are higher and vary by industry. The Fair Work Ombudsman provides pay guides for each award.

How are super and tax calculated on my annual pay?

Superannuation is 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid on top of your salary, up to a maximum contribution base of $270,830. Tax is based on the 2026–27 resident rates: nil up to $18,200, then 15% to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000, and 45% above. A 2% Medicare levy generally applies.
