Salary Calculator QLD: Convert Your Hourly Rate to Annual Pay, Tax and Super

For a 38-hour week, your annual gross pay is your hourly rate multiplied by 38 hours per week times 52 weeks.

From Hourly to Annual: The Simple Formula

If you earn an hourly wage or have a salary offer, the quickest way to see the yearly picture is to multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by 52 weeks. This is the core of any salary calculator QLD – it gives you a gross annual figure before tax and other deductions.

For a full-time employee, the standard week is 38 hours. The calculator on the timesheet assumes 38 hours unless you change it. So if your base rate is $30.00 per hour, your annual gross pay is:

$30.00 × 38 hours × 52 weeks = $59,280.00

You can also work out your fortnightly pay by doubling the weekly amount. A 38-hour week at $30.00 gives $1,140.00 weekly, so $2,280.00 per fortnight. This is useful if you are paid fortnightly and want to compare with your payslip.

When the Assumption Changes

If you work part-time or casual hours, adjust the weekly hours in the formula. The calculator lets you enter any hours per week. But for the standard salary calculator QLD result, 38 hours is the default because it matches the full-time ordinary hours used by the Fair Work Ombudsman and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Tax and Medicare on Your Annual Figure

Once you have your annual gross pay, the next step is estimating tax. The Australian Taxation Office publishes the resident tax rates for each financial year. For 2026–27, the scale is:

  • Nil on the first $18,200
  • 15% on income from $18,201 to $45,000
  • 30% on income from $45,001 to $135,000
  • 37% on income from $135,001 to $190,000
  • 45% on income above $190,000

Most residents also pay the Medicare levy, which is 2% of taxable income. The levy helps fund Australia’s public health system. The calculator uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 thresholds were not confirmed here, but the 2% rate is standard for most single taxpayers without dependants.

For example, on $59,280 gross, the tax estimate would be:

  • Tax on first $18,200: $0
  • Tax on next $26,800 (up to $45,000): 15% = $4,020
  • Tax on remaining $14,280: 30% = $4,284
  • Total tax: $8,304
  • Medicare levy: 2% of $59,280 = $1,185.60
  • Total tax and Medicare: $9,489.60

Your take-home pay would be roughly $59,280 – $9,489.60 = $49,790.40 per year. See take-home pay for more details.

Superannuation: Paid on Top

Superannuation is money your employer must pay into your super fund. From 1 July 2026, the super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary earnings. Importantly, super is paid on top of your gross salary – it is not deducted from your pay. The calculator shows an estimated super amount based on your annual ordinary earnings, up to the maximum contribution base of $270,830.

For the $59,280 example, super would be 12% × $59,280 = $7,113.60 per year. Your total employment cost to the employer is $59,280 + $7,113.60 = $66,393.60. Learn more about super and packaging.

Award Rates, Casual Loading and the Minimum Wage

Australia has a complex system of minimum wages. The National Minimum Wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour (or $1004.90 per 38-hour week). For casual employees, the minimum is $33.05 per hour including the 25% casual loading.

However, most employees are covered by an award or enterprise agreement that sets a higher minimum. The Fair Work Commission reviews award rates each year. If you are covered by an award, your base rate must be at least the award rate for your classification. The salary calculator QLD does not automatically apply award rates – you need to enter your correct base rate. Check your pay guides or the Fair Work Ombudsman website for the right figure.

Casual Loading

If you are a casual employee, you are entitled to a 25% loading on top of the base hourly rate. On the timesheet home page, there is a checkbox to add casual loading. When you tick it, the calculator adds 25% to the rate you entered before working out annual pay. Never enter a rate that already includes casual loading – the calculator does it for you.

For example, if your base award rate is $30.00 per hour, the casual rate becomes $30.00 × 1.25 = $37.50 per hour. The annual calculation then uses $37.50.

Using the Salary Calculator QLD

Our salary calculator QLD is designed for Queensland residents and anyone wanting to convert an hourly rate to annual figures. The tool on the timesheet is the starting point. Type your base hourly rate, choose your weekly hours (default 38), and tick the casual loading box if applicable. The calculator instantly shows:

  • Weekly gross pay
  • Fortnightly gross pay
  • Annual gross pay
  • Estimated tax (using 2026–27 rates)
  • Estimated Medicare levy
  • Estimated superannuation (12% on top)
  • Estimated take-home pay after tax and Medicare

You can also compare your figures with state averages. The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that full-time adult ordinary time earnings in Queensland were $2,039.70 per week in May 2026. This is an average, not a median for your job. For all employees (including part-time), the national average total earnings were $1,579.20 per week. See average pay for more context.

Important Caveats

Annual pay here is hourly rate × hours per week × 52. It assumes the same rate every week, no unpaid overtime, no penalty rates, no allowances, and no salary sacrifice. Super is estimated at 12% of ordinary earnings only, paid on top, and stops at the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Tax is the 2026–27 resident scale with the full tax-free threshold. Medicare uses the 2025–26 single reduction thresholds because the 2026–27 reduction thresholds were not confirmed here. HELP, the Medicare levy surcharge, and salary packaging are not deducted. This is an estimate, not a determination of your pay or tax.

Questions people ask next

How do I use the salary calculator QLD to estimate my take-home pay?

Enter your base hourly rate on [the timesheet](/) home page. The calculator multiplies by 38 hours and 52 weeks to give annual gross. It then applies the 2026–27 resident tax scale and the 2% Medicare levy to estimate tax. Super is added on top at 12% of ordinary earnings. If you are casual, tick the 25% loading box – the calculator adds that to your rate before the annual calculation. The result shows weekly, fortnightly and annual figures, plus estimated tax and super.

What is the difference between the National Minimum Wage and award rates?

The National Minimum Wage is the legal floor: from 1 July 2026 it is $26.44 per hour (or $1004.90 per 38-hour week). Award rates are higher minimums set by the Fair Work Commission for specific industries or roles. Most employees are covered by an award that overrides the National Minimum Wage. The salary calculator QLD uses the base rate you enter – it does not automatically apply an award rate. Check your [pay guides](/blog) or Fair Work Ombudsman resources to find the correct award minimum for your job.

Does the calculator include superannuation and casual loading?

Yes. Superannuation is estimated at 12% of your ordinary earnings, paid on top of your gross pay, up to the $270,830 maximum contribution base. Casual loading is a 25% addition to the base hourly rate for casual employees. On [the timesheet](/) you can tick a checkbox to add casual loading. The calculator then applies the loading before working out annual pay. Remember, super is calculated on the ordinary earnings (including casual loading if applicable) and is not deducted from your pay – it is an extra contribution by your employer.
